Vision Correction Procedures

Oswego Optique in Lake Oswego provides treatment, consultation and referrals for these common vision correction surgeries and procedures.

Vision correction is a general term used to describe a variety of ophthalmic techniques for correcting less-than-perfect vision. For your convenience, we have included a brief description of some of the most common vision correction procedures offered at Oswego Optique.

Cataract Surgery

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s normally clear lens, causing vision loss that cannot be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery like LASIK. When cataracts disrupt your daily life, cataract surgery to regain vision is one of the most frequent and successful procedures done in the country.

Co-managed care of your surgery allows you to see the surgeon for your initial post-operative visit, then return to us for the rest of your 3-month post-surgery visits. Dr. Shari Mace and Dr. Stephen Olsen are very experienced in diagnosis and post-operative care of cataract surgery and can refer you to an excellent local surgeon.

Refractive Surgery

LASIK and PRK

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) and PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) are surgical procedures that use a laser beam to reshape the cornea. Patients who are nearsighted, farsighted or astigmatic may benefit from this type of procedure.

KAMRA

Corrective eyewear is the most common solution for presbyopia (age-related loss of reading vision), usually either reading glasses or bifocal lenses. However, for many people, glasses can be a nuisance, particularly if you only need to wear them part of the time. Sometimes, they are not enough to completely correct your vision.

KAMRA inlays can eliminate the need for corrective eyewear entirely. About half as thick as plastic food wrapping, this small, ring-shaped device is inserted into the cornea to improve reading vision. Because the ring is opaque and full of thousands of microscopic openings, oxygen and nutrients continue to flow naturally through the eye without interference.

While millions of patients have seen successful results from refractive surgery, the procedure is not right for everyone. Our doctors will thoroughly examine your eyes to determine if one of these procedures might be right for you. Referral to a local surgeon, and co-managed care through the process, are available from Dr. Stephen Olsen and Dr. Shari Mace.

Vision Therapy

Vision therapy is an effective treatment for eye alignment problems and reading/learning difficulties. Some vision disorders in children can be misdiagnosed as attention problems. Dr. Scott Cooper specializes in visual performance, visual perception, vision and learning, and case analysis.

Common visual complaints that may be helped by vision therapy include:

  • Eyestrain, sore eyes, or eye fatigue, especially after reading or computer work
    Double vision
  • Vision that is slow to clear when changing from near to far focus
  • Covering one eye, especially when reading
  • Losing your place frequently when reading
  • Comprehension difficulty the longer you read
  • Attention that wanders during reading
